He is also a research fellow at the Forum for Regional Thinking dealing with environmental issues in the Middle East. Moreover, he is the founder and director of the Think Tank for the Research of Islam and Muslims in Africa dealing with Islam and Muslims in Africa and the Diaspora. He is an expert on Islam in Africa, environmental issues in the Arab and Muslim world, environmental security, Islam and the environment, interfaith environmental cooperation, environmental refugees. He has written a lot about these issues and he used to teach courses on environmental policy in the Middle East, Islam and the environment and interfaith environmental cooperation in the Department Of Geography and Environmental Development and in the Conflict Management & Resolution Program at the Ben Gurion University and in the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies in Kibbutz Keturah.

His main research interests include Iran and Shiite communities in the Middle East. As part of his research Yossi analyzes Iranian foreign policy as well as Iranian politics and tracks the various IRGC-backed militias which operate in different countries in the Middle East. His PhD is in its final stage. Yossi’s dissertation deals with the transnational Shiite networks which were formed and fostered since 1963 by the Khomeini-led the Revolutionary movement and by the Islamic Republic of Iran until 1989.

A field researcher, an expert for liberalization and democratization processes in the Muslim world, and an interpreter for the Gulf affairs on i24 TV channel in Arabic. Her study includes special activities inside the Middle East, Africa and the Gulf countries. In addition, she created unique activities between countries without diplomatic relations. Dr. Ofir is an activist for weak populations in disaster-stricken areas.
